With a mere three and a half hours on board, the Hiram Bingham from Cuzco to the legendary settlement of Machu Picchu is by far the shortest luxury train trip…in the shortest luxury train! Nevertheless, for a taste of high class and a chance to experience the real Peru, it’s well worth a visit.
The train itself consists of only four carriages and in a bright move these have been completely given over to gastronomic delights; two restaurant cars, a bar and a kitchen compartment meaning that your brief train journey can be spent in sumptuous 20s-style surroundings sampling some exquisite international and local dishes. Departure times are slightly unusual, however this does afford passengers the chance to experience the beauty of the Peruvian landscape at dusk. The narrow, winding track eventually leads to the world-famous former Inca settlement of Machu Picchu where a guided tour is given. An elegant Afternoon Tea is then served at the Sanctuary Lodge while on the return journey to Cusco your taste buds receive yet another treat; a cocktail dinner party. The stunning majesty of the Peruvian landscapes, the rarified mysticism of Machu Picchu and the sumptuous on-board food more than make up for the brevity of this trip.

The Hiram Bingham train is the most luxurious way to journey between Cusco and Machu Picchu. For many visitors a trip to Machu Picchu is a once in a lifetime experience. The Hiram Bingham assures a magical journey never to be forgotten.
The Hiram Bingham is named after the explorer who discovered the fascinating remains of the Inca citadel, Machu Picchu on July 23rd 1911. The carriages are painted a distinctive blue and gold while interiors are luxurious, warm and inviting with elegant decoration in the style of the 1920's Pullman trains.
As passengers step on board they are encompassed in a world of polished wood, gleaming cutlery and glittering glass.
The train consists of two Dining Cars, an Observation Bar Car and a Kitchen Car, and can carry up to 84 passengers.

The dining car offer a a capacity of 42 seats each. It is here in which our Maitre’d will invite you to enjoy a brunch and a gastronomic dinner, specially created by our chef aboard.
You will delight the finest fresh regional seasonal ingredients and a Premium selection of South American wines in gleaming crystal and silverware.
The Bar car is the perfect place to enjoy a Pisco Sour and experience live Peruvian music with our on board band. During the journey to Machu Picchu our barman invites our passenger to learn how to make our traditional Pisco Sour. Take our secret recipe home.
